The heart of the workshop approach is individualized instruction in which the writer is taught skills and strategies in order to move along their own continuum. However, often times finding that one teaching point can be daunting. This session will focus on concrete ways to pick teaching points for a writer through observation, conversation, and analyzing student work. Participants will have opportunities to analyze writing samples to find teaching points and mark up mentor texts to use in conferences. Participants should bring one informational mentor text, one literature mentor text, and student work samples.
